Learning science is not always easy for children. Often if it seems difficult, children will lose interest. Science is an essential area that will stay with children throughout their education, so it is important that they don’t lose interest while they are young. There are number of things one can do to get their kids interested in science.
First, consider what aspect of science does catch your childs fancy. If your child likes some drama and action, then a volcano kit would be a perfect introduction to Science workshop. A volcano-construction and demonstration kit is not only a great learning tool, but above all, it is incredible fun for a child to see the lava bubbling out.
Each day, the boys get closer to solving each clue, while trying to keep their parents and nosey little sisters out of it. Their older sisters become involved and help them plot a midnight adventure that will have the hair on the back of your neck standing up!
While in college, I wrote a story for a writing workshop about a custodian cleaning the morgue during the graveyard shift. He has a habit of drinking on the job and is a little tipsy, so he believes that one of the bodies dropped off for an early morning autopsy is really alive but is in a coma. I had never been in a morgue so I called Lincoln General Hospital and asked if I could come over and take a look. A nice fellow showed me around the morgue (the first thing I learned is they didn’t like to call it the morgue; on the door was a sign that said “Clinical Evaluation”), and I went home and wrote the story.
Take your children to such places as zoos, aquariums, Science workshop for kids centers, and planetariums…etc. It is great and fun way to get children interested in science.
My own early understanding of how we can change our beliefs is through the principles of quantum mechanics. According to quantum physicist, all things in the universe, including us, are made of subatomic particles. These particles are nothing more than energy. The chair you are sitting in, down to its most subatomic makeup, is nothing more than energy. Without diving into the world of quantum theory, we can use the principles to understand how it impacts us on a personal level.
I was like a cat in headlights and found myself falling in to the trap of all those projects, trying to understand every nut and bolt and making no ground at all.
Take your kids to science centers, aquariums, zoos, and planetariums…and many others. It’s a fantastic and enjoyable way of getting kids enthusiastic about science.
