Stress Management Relaxation Techniques

Anyone who suffers from anxiety can tell you very quickly that the problem is not just a nuisance. It can disrupt work and home life. It can strike at very inopportune times, and it is not fun. Anxiety can come in the form of a disorder, like social anxiety disorder or general anxiety disorder, or it can be an effect of stress or depression.

My method of choice is to stop at a park on the way to work and breatheology coach for about 20 minutes, but the gym or a run in the morning, or even something like tai chi or yoga can also be effective to relieve stress and bring calmness.

Life is not all about work. Getting enough sleep and exercise and eating a healthy diet are also important. Make time for social activities, but don’t become dependent on alcohol or drugs which actually add to stress and depression. A big help in reducing stress is volunteering for something that involves in helping people. So can prayer, meditation and yoga.

As crazy as this may sound, there is a mental need to prepare the body for sleep, for work, and for recreation, because when you “pay” attention to the body, the body “pays” attention to you.

The Lojong meditation slogan “Be grateful to everyone” teaches us to see all situations as teaching moments and that it’s the tough ones that teach you best.

Make career decisions based on who you are now — not the person you were ten years ago (or even ten days ago). For example, maybe you spent a life as the quintessential urban resident and now you realize you really want to plant a garden. You enjoyed twenty years of law or medicine or sales, and now you find yourself writing poetry and making time to help a third-grader learn to read. Your old career will not fit anymore.

Treatments that use a natural course of action all seem to work better over time. They bring the mind into focus and keep the panic under control. It will keep a person out of the hospital and save the testing or incrimination that goes along with suffering from panic attack disorder. It is not something to take lightly.
