Top Travel Rules Worth Breaking

My husband and three kids sailed on the Carnival Conquest on July 18, 2010 for a seven day cruise. The cruise left from Galveston and had ports of call at Montego Bay, Jamaica; Georgetown, Grand Cayman; and Cozumel, Mexico. We chose this particular cruise in part because we could easily drive to the Galveston port from our home in Austin and because we were excited about the ports of call. I had previously cruised on Carnival, although it was years ago as a child with my own parents. Nobody else in my family had ever taken a cruise.

Tuesday – Woke up. Drove from Medford, Oregon, to Yreka, California. Passed an awesome lake on the way – don’t remember its name. Inadvertently got lost in Yreka. Got found. Bought a collection of short stories by Janet Asimov. Ate at “Grandma’s Restaurant” and bought Best-of CDs by The Drifters and The Platters. Drove to San Francisco. Checked into the Columbus Motor Inn. Ate at Coupeno’s (sp?) Restauraunt. Bought a t-shirt with a photo of Arnold Schwarzenegger that reads: “The Governator, California.” Will be a good way to display my republicanism. I am surprised that my spell check confirms that that is a word.

Thinking of entering online schooling can arouse discomfort for some. This is quite understandable since it is not the usual way of learning just like those people who have tried airplane as a way to travel for the first time. However, with the reputation online schools are gaining, the way students learn is transforming in an “unconventional way”.

Parking in Manhattan can be maddening! In fact, it’s almost always maddening. Kona was still driving and she was as maniacal on city streets as she was on the suburban highways, weaving in and out of taxi service cabs and honking her horn at crossing pedestrians. The two of them had decided to eat on the Upper East Side, since it was close to the party, but the Upper East Side, unlike the seaport, was full of Saturday night diners. There wasn’t a parking space to be had.

The taxis offered by registered and renowned transportation companies are in far better condition than the local taxis. They are spotless, neat, and clean inside out. They have reasonable fares. Above all, they are reliable. You can comfortably travel by them and hire them online or through a call. You do not have to wave down a taxi anymore. These taxis can pick you up from your house or anywhere you want.

The first bit of advice is to take a taxi from a taxi rank. Do not take a taxi from someone who is touting his taxi service outside the airport or the train station. Most countries have a structure of organized cancun airport car rental ranks, but there are always rogue taxi drivers attempting to by-pass the official system.

Chicago is also famous because of Al “Scarface” Capone who made the city his home base after leaving his small time shenanigans in New York and became a well-known criminal in Chicago. Capone controlled most of the city until in the 1930’s he was convicted, not for his numerous murders and other crimes, but for tax evasion.

Anticipatory grief, rising health care costs, time constraints and expanding tasks are just some of the things that make caregiving a full-time job. Other issues, such as family disputes or moving to another community to get better care, make that job harder. Though the work is hard, I hope you view caregiving as a sacred experience. You are helping a special person live out his or her life with dignity, honor, and love.
